Tapper’s calculates gold offers based on the amount of pure gold contained in the item, its weight and the current market price of gold.
Gold purity increases with karat:
Gold karat and approximate pure gold content:
10K-41.7%,
14K-58.3%,
18K-75.0%,
22K-91.7%,
24K-99.9%.
This means the pricing is linear based on gold content. All else being equal, an 18K piece is worth more per gram than a 14K piece because it contains a higher percentage of pure gold.
For example, if two pieces weigh exactly the same, an 18K piece contains approximately 29% more pure gold than a 14K piece, and its underlying gold value would therefore be approximately 29% higher.
At Tapper’s Gold Exchange, we determine the karat and weight of your gold, reference the current gold market, and use those factors to calculate your offer. There is never an obligation to sell after receiving an evaluation.
